XPrize Offers $5 Million to Innovators of Fast and Inexpensive COVID-19 Testing

Xprize is a non-profit organization that arranges and hosts public interest competitions, aimed
to uplift technological development for the welfare of mankind. Recently, it
came up with another competition. Xprize has offered all the creators around
the globe to come up with a technical solution of creating a fast and cheap
COVID-19 testing kit and has announced the prize of $5 million to the winner.
Previously Xprize held a competition to bring private spacecraft to the moon in
which all teams failed and no one got the prize. Another one was related to the
creation of a real-life version of Star Trek coder, which had a winner.

The real
hurdle in the way of our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic is the unavailability
or shortage
of the testing kits
of this disease. Without testing kits, the tracking and
slowing down of this pandemic is impossible. With an increase in the number of coronavirus
patients, the demand for testing kits has skyrocketed whereas the shortage has reached
its limit. If this shortage issue is not resolved, the tests will not be done
on time which will affect the measures the government is required to take to
slow down this pandemic. This is a high time that we start making fast and
inexpensive testing kits, which equally benefit developed as well as non-developed
countries.

Xprize has
taken a great initiative by calling all creators around the globe to participate
in the competition. The goal of the competition is to have a future where
anyone, anywhere can get themselves checked for coronavirus and get the result
within hours so that the world can safely reopen and start functioning soon.

The $5 mill XPRIZE RAPID COVID TESTING starts now. ๐Ÿ™Œ The mission: develop COVID-19 testing solutions that are frequent, fast, cheap and easy, so the world can safely move forward. ๐Ÿงช ๐ŸŒŽ

The winning

has to make a COVID-19 testing kit that is completely affordable as
compared to what is already available in the market. It should be able to give a
result within 12 hours from the submission of the sample to get results. The
winning team has to present the kits that would be able to take a minimum of 500
tests per week and has the capability of scaling it up to thousands of tests
per week.
The
teams that want to participate can consist of students from universities, high
school, start-up to small scale businesses, individuals, or even families.
