Last year in October Microsoft announced the design of Surface Duo, though the specs were kept secret now after months of development, Microsoft is ready to take the preorder of its two screens ANDROID phone. Yes!! you read it right guys; it is not a windows phone but has a widely used Android operating system. It would be an injustice to call it “ONLY” phone as the more you read its specs the more you will find this amazing product with functionality of a surface, a two-screen device, a mobile product, a kind of mini pc, and a tablet.
Surface Duo looks similar to Samsung Galaxy Fold but it has two separate OLED 5.6’’ displays that can fold onto each other with 360 degrees hinges and can make a total 8.1’’ working space. Whereas Samsung Galaxy fold has only one flexible screen that folds. With the help of hinges, you can fold the screens, or use it as one large screen, or can simply place it on the table like a tent. Two screens increase productivity. It enables users to view two apps side-by-side at the same time. You can also view two websites at once, or drag and drop whatever you want across the two screens. Reading, streaming, working, and enhanced productivity couldn’t get any better with the Surface signature 3:2 aspect ratio. Microsoft has used Gorilla Glass to make it scratch resistant.
Microsoft’s Surface Duo supports single-screen and dual-screen modes for various apps which makes it outstanding and different than other foldable smartphones. From the demo, it looks like both Microsoft and Google’s apps are optimized for the product. Some apps look impressive when spanned on both the screens but some look awkward across the two screens. Microsoft’s Surface Duo also gives the choice of making your app group where you can pair any two apps and launch them at the same time on each screen. This device is suitable for workaholics as they can perform two tasks at the same time like typing on one screen while viewing or doing some other work on the other screen.
Users can easily make or receive a call by folding the device. It is thin, lightweight (250 grams), and less than 0.4’’ when folded. It as 11 MP front and rear camera. It is compatible with AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. It consists of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with 6GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage.
Microsoft is a big name when it comes to software and consumer electronics, but the company failed to make its place in the mobile industry. The launch of Surface Duo shows that Microsoft is again making efforts to make its name in the smartphone industry. Though the timing is not perfect as the world is hit by a pandemic where people have lost jobs and are facing financial difficulties. Microsoft’s Surface Duo starting price is $1,399 which may turn off many a potential buyer.
