Grammy-nominated artist Sophie dies at age 34

Grammy-nominated artist Sophie Xeon, publicly known as SOPHIE was a renowned Scottish musician, singer, songwriter, producer, and DJ. She died on 30 January 2021, at 4:00 am in a “sudden accident”.

According to the details provided by Transgressive, an independent record label based in London, the artist fell and died while watching a full moon. In a recent tweet, it says, “Tragically our beautiful Sophie passed away this morning after a terrible accident. True to her spirituality she had climbed up to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell. She will always be here with us. The family thanks everyone for their love and support and request privacy at this devastating time.” Sophie died at the age of 34 in her home in Athens, Greece.

Sophie was a trans activist and in an interview with an online magazine “Paper”, she openly talked about being trans and said, “For me, transness is taking control to bring your body more in line with your soul and spirit so the two aren’t fighting against each other and struggling to survive. On this earth, it’s that you can get closer to how you feel your true essence is without the societal pressures of having to fulfill certain traditional roles based on gender. It means you’re not a mother or a father — you’re an individual who’s looking at the world and feeling the world. And it’s somehow more human and universal, I feel.

In 2017, Sophie released a new single, “it’s ok to cry”. In its musical video, Sophie’s voice and image were used for the first time. Later, Sophie opened up to the press and social media about being transgender.

Her Grammy-nominated debut album was Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides. It was nominated for Best Dance/ Electronic Album.

Several artists expressed their grief and shock at the sudden death of SOPHIE.
