Dua Lipa Sued for Posting Paparazzi Photo of Herself on Instagram
Lately, many celebrities including Gigi Hadid, Khloe Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, 50 cents, Jessica Simpson, and Liam Hemsworth faced charges by the photo agencies for using papped photos of themselves on social media. This time, Dua Lipa, a renowned English singer, and songwriter, is receiving legal action.
On 3rd February 2019, Dua Lipa was photographed at the airport while standing in the queue, holding her airline ticket and passport. She was wearing an oversized hat. Four days later the star uploaded her picture on Instagram without consent from the photographer, thereby violating the U.S. copyright law.
Integral Images filed a lawsuit against the singer on July 6th for using their intellectual property without permission. Integral Images is seeking $150,000 damages, along with orders covering litigation costs and attorney fees. The photo agency claims that the star monetizes her Instagram account. She profited from the image as the content she shares on her Instagram account is used as a marketing tool for her music.
According to BBC, the court documents say that her Instagram account is,” monetized in that it contains content designed to accumulate followers who are directed to, via the link and/or advertisement, consume and purchase [her] content.”
Lipa’s representatives have been contacted for comment.
